Lutheran Social Services of the Southwest is Reuniting Families
Although we have not done this work in the past, we were recently asked by Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Services (LIRS) to provide emergency services to 300 immigrant families who were separated under the short-lived family separation policy. They need your help.
We were called upon on short notice because of our reputation in resettling refugees, expertise working with children and families who have experienced trauma, and because of YOU - the deep bench of compassionate community.
They are in our care for only a brief time, and our staff are meeting immediate needs that include temporary housing, basic supplies, legal/health referrals, and transportation.
They have other simple needs. Can I call home and speak with my wife, who has no idea what has happened to me? Will you pray with me?
And they have many needs that aren't as simple. Who can I trust? What will happen next?
The biggest thing you can do to help is to donate online, so that we can best meet the individual needs of each family we are working with.
Our Children & Family services team know that many of the children may be deeply traumatized from this experience, and are taking extra measures to protect their privacy.
Act with love for all of God’s children. Your support will help families that are being reunified right now.
