Welcome to our Developmental Home Program!

At LSS-SW, we are dedicated to helping individuals with developmental disabilities find the safe, loving homes they deserve. In partnership with the Arizona Department of Economic Security (DES) and the Department of Child Safety (DCS), we help place children and adults with developmental disabilities in suitable homes, where they can stabilize during their transition and succeed.

Our team is here to support you every step of the way with the resources, guidance, and training you need. The required training will give you the skills to confidently care for individuals with cognitive or developmental disabilities, ensuring you are well-prepared for this important journey. Our goal is to guide you through the process of becoming an adult or child developmental home in Arizona. We assist with case plans for families considering adoption, providing support throughout the process when adoption is a potential next step.

We are here to create an environment where both foster families and individuals with developmental disabilities can thrive.

    • Facilitate Training: We facilitate the required training to ensure you gain the knowledge and skills needed to confidently care for individuals with developmental disabilities. Some of the preservice training is provided in-house, while other courses—such as Foster Parent College, Article 9, and Prevention and Support—are completed online or in-person. The total training hours are 33 hours, and we offer flexible options to fit your schedule, ensuring you are thoroughly prepared for the important work ahead.

    • In-home Visits and Availability: We conduct regular visits to offer support, ensure compliance with home safety guidelines, and assist you as needed. Our team is available after hours for emergencies and will work around your work schedule to provide advocacy and guidance.

    • Personalized Welcome Binders: We provide personalized welcome binders within 48 hours of a placement’s arrival to help organize important documents and provide helpful information, ensuring you're prepared for the journey ahead. The binders also include copies of monthly forms to keep everything organized and up to date.

    • Celebrating Milestones: We believe in celebrating all milestones—whether it’s a birthday or a graduation. We provide cakes, cupcakes, and gifts to make these special moments memorable and meaningful for the individuals in our care.

    • Family-Oriented Events: We host regular events to help foster families build social connections. These events are a great opportunity to meet others, share experiences, and create lasting friendships within a supportive community.

    • Respite Care Services: Our foster families are trained to provide respite care, and we coordinate the service based on your needs and their capacity. This ensures you get the breaks you need, while being confident that your placement continues to receive the same attention and support they deserve.
