K-12 Refugee Education Services
**We are hosting a Cultural Empowerment Day in Tucson on Thursday, March 17th from 12pm - 6pm at Golflinks Sports Complex! Come out to spend the afternoon with us playing games, doing activities, and enjoying food. If you have questions, please contact Awad at aramdan@lss-sw.org.
For many refugee students, entering school is an enormous transition that often involves learning a new language, adapting to a new culture, and establishing new routines. They bring with them a wealth of experience, culture, and perspectives that greatly enhance the classrooms that they are entering.
With the support of volunteers, educators, and community experts, LSS-SW builds strong foundations for refugee students to succeed, including:
Home visits to provide educational support services
In-person and virtual tutoring for high school students
Newcomer School Orientations
College applications, support, and FAFSA assistance
Orientations and workshops for cultural integration for parents
Resources and professional development for educators who work with refugee students to raise awareness on:
Refugee resettlement
Culturally-responsive curriculum
Trauma and safe classroom
Community presentations by refugee content experts
Community connection for refugee youth and their families
Digital literacy training
And much more!
How can I get involved?
