In Memory of Heidi Gerrish

On behalf of the entire Lutheran Social Services of the Southwest family, we are devastated by the death of our Communications Coordinator Heidi Gerrish. We are stunned and grieving this incomprehensible loss.

Those that didn't know Heidi through her enthusiastic and creative joy for life knew her through her words in the emails, letters, videos, cards, and media materials that Heidi created. Her passion for this mission shined through and touched the lives of countless neighbors in need. Beyond that, she was a friend to many that work at LSS. There is a hole in our work and hearts. And while we will try to move forward, we will never forget Heidi.

We ask you to join us in prayer for Heidi's loved ones. When more information is available, it will be posted on our website.

The Room of Ancient Keys

Grandma once gave me a tip:

During difficult times,
you move forward in small steps.
Do what you have to do, but little by little.
Don’t think about the future,
not even what might happen tomorrow.
Wash the dishes.
Take off the dust.
Write a letter.
Make some soup.
Do you see?
You are moving forward step by step.
Take a step and stop.
Get some rest.
Compliment yourself.
Take another step.
Then another one.
You won’t notice, but your steps will grow
bigger and bigger.
And time will come
when you can think about the future
without crying.
Good morning.
